Owen Hargreaves...

Is it just me that never really plays him when managing Man Utd... I just don't really see any need for him; he doesn't fit with the type of footaball I like to play, and if I do play him then he'll generally disappoint anyway.

Owen Hargreeaves; a complete waste of 17 million?

He is a great technical player, especially if you're playing 4-4-2 and need a more defensive type midfielder who can still play football. I use him and Carrick when I am managing England.

Owen Hargreaves-less football.

Carrick in the middle, Scholes/Anderson attacking midfield, and Rooney and Tevez up front. Hargreaves quite consistently pulls 7s in games, occasionally gets the odd 6... most of my squad often get 8s however and every time I manage Man Utd I always find him to be the weak link that serves little more use than purely warming the bench.

If he doesn't perform for you and someone else does, then fair enough. Although consider giving him a decent run in the team, if you haven't already. Let him find his form...

Yeah. I might give him another go; I probably should give him a fair hearing in the team really... it's just that every time I manage Man Utd Hargreaves seems to underperform and never quite hits the strength of the rest of my midfield. That said; Carrick let the side down with a 6 in the last game, if Hargreaves didn't have a bloody virus then maybe this would be his time to shine.

don't worry you're not the only one! in my Utd save in 08 I only used hargreaves in away games where I felt carrick couldn't hold the midfield well, and quite often i paired haregreaves and fletcher together just to keep the ball moving out to ronaldo/nani/giggs.

DM's are known to get low-ish average ratings on FM 08, I'd just ignore those tbh.
