Goalkeeper attributes PDF Print E-mail

If you can afford Czech or Buffon, no need to read this piece. However, if you are struggling to get a goakeeper on a low budget, you should really understand which attributes he definitely needs.

 Goalkeeping (Goalkeepers only)

Aerial Ability

How able is your keeper to pluck the ball in the air? A good aerial ability is crucial if the opponent has good crosses in the area, or plays with long balls

Command of Area

A good command ensures that your keeper will be able to get around the box rapidly and in due time. Valuable at set pieces, especially in those dreadful corner situations, with the ball aimed at the line of the box, where he has to decide if he is going for it or staying behind

Communication

Communication skills, obviously enough, are essential if you wish to organise your defense

Eccentricity

An eccentric keeper is one that can save your day in a match, but destroy you in another with a moment of sheer stupidity. Can be worth investing in one if you are a small team, trying to make the big surprise, but don't even think of one in a mourinho-type situation

Handling

Handling represents the ability to handle the ball. Don't even think of getting a keeper who scores low in this one.

Kicking

How accurately can your keeper distribute the ball? Good if he seeks your target man, not crucial though. Czech is a great keeper though he can hardly keep the ball within the match pitch.

Reflexes

No explanations needed for this one

Rushing Out

This is crucial if you play the offiside trap. This way your keeper can act a bit like a sweeper..

Tendency to Punch

Punching can clear the danger immediately but it still remains a risky business. A matter of choise-and of defense quality.

Throwing

Can he deliver the ball fastly to start a counter attack
