Tweaking your tactics-Player instructions
(0 votes)
So you have chosen the right tactic. Your players seem to work well, they are happy with their places on the field, and you are happy with their performances. Time to take a look at fine tuning your fomation. So you have chosen the right tactic. Your players seem to work well, they are happy with their places on the field, and you are happy with their performances. Time to take a look at fine tuning your fomation.

The first thing to do is set some specific player instructions. If you are playing a player out of position, you might consider putting an arrow to him, that will bring him to his natural position during the course of the game. For exemple if you are using an AMR as a MR, then giving him a forward arrow will definitely improve his game.

Apart for that, you should specify the way your player reacts in with and without ball situations, when attacking. A general rule is that a fast player should make forward runs especially if he also has good positioning, so that he can free himself and get the ball. A player who is good at dribbling should be given the right to run with ball. As a general rule, also, wingers are always to be set to make lots of forward runs and your DCs, which usually are tall and with good heading, should be set to move forward for set pieces

Below is a list of recommended basic instructions, as proposed by SI's Mark Vaughan.

Defender Left/Right Pace, Positioning, Stamina -->Forward Runs
Defender Left/Right Dribbling, Positioning, Stamina, Crossing -->Run with ball
Defender Central Positioning, Stamina, Jumping, Heading -->Forward for set pieces
Defensive Midfielder Strength, Decisions, Passing -->Hold up the ball
Winger Any -->Forward Runs
Winger Dribbling, Pace -->Run with ball
Midfielder Strength, Decisions, Passing -->Hold up the ball
Midfielder Stamina, Decisions -->Forward Runs
Midfielder Dribbling, Pace --> Run with ball
Attacker Strength, Jumping -->Run with ball
Attacker Dribbling, Pace -->Hold up the ball

Always keep in mind that your player instructions are to be applied after considering the effect that they will be having to your team as a whole. It's no use having every creative midfielder moving to a forward position and when your tall DCs move forward for corners, someone must cover the defense.
