Pace, acceleration, agility

Written by k8oylos

What is exactly the difference between pace and acceleration? What does agility mean? We are attempting a graphical explanation.

The article was originally published, in Greek, at the excellent FMGreece.gr

Let's take the exemple of a skillful attacker, with high agility and dribbling, but low pace. We will examine through a series of images how the defender will respond, depending on his attributes.

Case 1: Defender with low pace, high acceleration and agility.

Here the defender moves fast, but knows he can't keep up when the attacker reaches full speed. If he also has high anticipation, he will use his agility to take the ball fast, before he is left behing.

Case 2: High Pace, High acceleration, High agility.

The defender stands no chance when the attacker dribbles. However while the attacker rushes forward, he easily catches up.

Case 3: High pace, Low acceleration, High agility

Slow at the beginning, but finally he will catch up.

Case 4: High Pace, Low acceleration, Low agility.

He is fast enough to catch up at last, but not skillful enough to win the ball...
