Teams participating
The test was set up as following. We run 2 teams, Aston Villa from the Premiership and Q.P.R from 2nd Division because we wanted to see how the formations would perform both with top and low-end players.

Game settings
Next thing to do was load the game with standard settings database small and load english second division and above.

Following that we set the assistant coach to take control of friendly matches and training in the first team, and then go on holidays with the following settings: Don't buy any players, don't sell any players, use current match tactics. Then the game was saved.

Game procedure
This first save was what we used as a basis for all the other tests. The test procedure was the following:

  • First we deactivated the use current tactics option and went on holidays with an end date of May 31, 2003, to let the game run for a full season. This was done to see the league position obtained by the team in case no special tactic was selected.
  • Then we reloaded the original save, setting a different tactic its time the game was run. Again we went on holiday for both teams until the end of the season.

Notes: Please note that in the calculation of the match results lies a 5% randomization factor, meaning that the results of the test can not be exactly reproduced in any circumstances. This is just an indication of what is most probable to happen if you use a specific formation, and not what will definitely happen. Also keep in mind that the best formation is the one that best fits the players of your team!
